Jen Harkness

Client Service Administrator

“Life is uncertain; we should wisely plan for the future, but also immerse ourselves in the joys that each day brings.”

Jen helps clients implement the financial plan they discuss with their advisor by preparing and processing necessary paperwork, keeping lines of communication open, and serving on the front line when there are questions or issues. Jen holds a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Taylor University. When she is outside the office, you can find her taking advantage of her new-found independence as an empty nester, likely crocheting baby blankets while enjoying a good British murder mystery show on Netflix.

Tell us about something special from your youth.

When I was young, my dad chaperoned high school Environmental Science educational trips. The family was able to accompany him on several trips including snorkeling in the Keys, sailing on a schooner off the coast of Maine, working on a ranch in Steamboat Springs, and canoeing in Canadian wilderness. We were also avid 4-H participants showing a variety of livestock each year.

Where have you worked? What is the best thing that has ever happened while you were working?

I have had fantastic work experiences during my life: teaching preschool, directing programs at the YMCA, and now landing at Vestia. I have made the greatest of friends along the way and get to work with some of my favorites at Vestia!

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I have a really fun family and we love getting together and laughing our way through a game night. It always involves good food and some kind of sporting event on TV in the background.

What is your favorite part of what you do at Vestia?

I really enjoy collaborating with the team to create unique financial plans for each client. Our greatest strength is that we acknowledge and encourage the strongest attributes and contributions of each team member to create excellent service experiences for our clients.

What book do you always tell people they should read? Why?

There are two: Strengths Finder by Tom Rath, and In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick. The first one gave me confidence in myself and the second gave me a love of nonfiction stories.

One of Vestia’s values is to model “wealth without regret.” What does this mean to you?

My grandpa worked on the Erie Lackawanna railroad for 40 years and spent many nights away from his family in order to save for a retirement home on the golf course. About a year after he retired and moved into the new home, he passed away from cancer. It always broke my heart that grandpa didn’t get to enjoy his retirement days on the links. Life is uncertain; we should wisely plan for the future, but also immerse ourselves in the joys that each day brings.

At Vestia, we approach things differently than most financial firms. There’s intentionally no majority owner with their last name on the door. Instead, we have a full partnership track much like a law firm or medical practice might have.

These outstanding advisors support the work of our partners.

At Vestia, nobody is on an eat-what-you-kill model. Instead, we desire to be the most collaborative firm in the world. As such we designed our entire infrastructure to support total collaboration.

In other words, when you work with one of us, you’re truly gaining support from all of us. This allows our advisors to specialize across various practice groups, so if they’re not the right advisor for you, they know one who will be.
